Coconut oil is safe when applied to the skin. It is also safe when taken by mouth in food amounts. But this oil contains a type of fat that can increase cholesterol levels.

So people should avoid eating coconut oil in excess. Coconut oil is advantageous when used as a medicine for a short while. Taking coconut oil in doses of 10 mL two or three times daily for up to 12 weeks can be safe.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:

It is better to avoid this oil when you are pregnant or are in the stage of breastfeeding. So if you are a user of coconut oil for a while, better give it a short term retirement.
