1. Oil Pulling

Surprisingly unrefined coconut oil and sesame oil promote great oral health, including bad breath removal and whitened teeth apart from gum problems.

  • Swish a mouthful of one of the two oils for 15 – 20 minutes
  • Spit and rinse your mouth with warm water
  • Repeat everyday

Or

  • Rub your teeth and gum with this paste for 5 minutes every day – a Pinch of salt + 1 tsp Mustard Oil
  • Rinse with warm water

2. Salt Water Gargle

Salt water has many health benefits, including curing periodontitis. Salt contains antiseptic and antibacterial properties that effectively fight bacteria that cause periodontitis. Salt also reduces swollen gums and pain.

  • Swish your mouth with a combination of 2 tsp. salt and a glass of lukewarm water
  • Do this for 1 minute
  • Repeat 2 – 3 times a day

3. Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen Peroxide is considered a strong anti-bacterial agent as well as most recommended tooth whitener.

  • Rinse your mouth with equal parts of hydrogen peroxide (3% solution) and water for a minute
  • Alternatively rub your gums and teeth with a paste of Hydrogen Peroxide and water
  • Continue until satisfying results
  • Do not use concentrated Hydrogen Peroxide and don’t use this treatment quite often

4. Turmeric

Turmeric has a great antibacterial and anti-inflammatory property, curcumin. Curcumin in turmeric fights bacteria and cures gum diseases to a great extent.

  • Brush your teeth twice daily with Turmeric powder using a soft bristles
  • Prepare a paste with vitamin E oil and turmeric powder. Apply the paste in your gums before going to bed. Rinse with warm water next morning
  • Repeat once everyday

5. Basil

Holy Basil can stop your gums from bleeding, one of the primary and common symptoms of Periodontitis. It also proves to be an effective treatment for pus, tooth ache and painful gums.

  • Make a paste of dried holy basil and mustard oil
  • Rub the paste on your gums and brush your teeth with soft bristles 2 times a day as long as symptoms persists

6. Tea Tree Oil

Tea Tree oil again is a natural anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial agent that has been several times used in Ayurveda. It also reduces bleeding and is used in the treatment of Oral Thrush and Herpes.

  • Brush your teeth and gums with Tea Tree Oil gel twice daily
  • You can also mix few drops of the oil in your toothpaste and brush everyday

7. Black Tea

Black tea, as well as green tea has greater percentages of antioxidants that fight infections. They also contain tannic acid, which help reduce pain and inflammation.

  • Soak a tea bag in hot water for 10 minutes.
  • Cool it down. Place the bag on the affected area for 5 minutes

  • Combining baking soda and coconut oil will balance the acids present in your mouth
  • Make a paste of coconut oil and baking soda

10. Black Pepper

Black pepper is an age old Ayurveda medicine for treating periodontitis. It strengthens gums, fights tarter and plagues from accumulating and reduces bacterial infection.

  • Finely powder black pepper. Take equal amount of salt and black pepper powder and gently massage on your gums for 2 – 3 minutes
  • Rinse with warm water
  • Repeat 2 – 3 times a day
