Ingredients for Homemade Shampoo

1. Liquid castile soap

Castile soaps are made with vegetable or plant-based oils. It can get rid of sebum, germs, dirt, and grease from scalp and hair. These liquid soaps act gently without damaging the hair.

Most of us, at some, have used coconut oil for hair. Coconut milk also exhibits similar benefits when applied to hair. It can restore the dry & damaged hair & scalp, promote hair growth, reduce dandruff, and slow down hair loss.

3. Baking soda

Baking soda is one of the best sources to clean and remove the buildup of oils, soaps, chemicals, and dirt from the hair. It can help in restoring the clean, shiny, and soft hair.

4. Glycerin

It is one of the best ingredients that can help in retaining the moisture in the hair. Glycerin can condition the hair, prevent breakage, remove dandruff, repair split ends, and maintain curls.

(If you are living in a humid condition, glycerin may pull out the moisture away from the hair).

5. Jojoba oil

6. Peppermint oil

How to make Natural Shampoo

1. Glycerine and liquid castile soap


  • Liquid Castile soap – 1/2 cup
  • Glycerine – 1tsp (do not use if you have oily hair)
  • Water – 1/2 cup

How to make it?

  • Take a bowl and all the ingredients.
  • Mix it until all the ingredients blend well.
  • Now you can store this in a shampoo or similar bottles.

It is thinner than the regular shampoo; however, it will help in clearing excess oil and grime from hair and the scalp.

Essential Oils Shampoo

  • Liquid castile soap – 1/4 cup
  • Jojoba oil – 1/2 tsp
  • Peppermint essential oil – 1/8 tsp
  • Tea tree essential oil – 1/8 tsp
  • Distilled water – 1/4 cup

How to make it?

  • Take a bowl and add water.
  • Now add all the ingredients and stir it gently.

Your shampoo is now ready to use. Pour it in a reusable shampoo bottle or other similar ones.

Essential oil shampoo is one of the best natural ways to refresh the scalp and give you a sense of freshness.

Aloe-vera gel moisturizing shampoo


  • Liquid castile soap – 1/4 cup
  • Aloe-vera gel – 1/4 cup
  • Glycerin – 1 tsp
  • Avocado oil – 1/4 tsp
  • Distilled water – 1/4 cup

How to make it?

  • Take a bowl and pour water in it.
  • Now add all the ingredients to the bowl of water and mix it.

Note: Make sure to shake the shampoo bottles before use.

Apple Cider vinegar anti-dandruff shampoo


  • Liquid castile soap – 1/4 cup
  • Apple cider vinegar – 1 tbsp
  • Apple juice – 3 tbsp
  • Ground cloves – 6
  • Jojoba oil – 1/2 tsp

How to make it?

  • Take all the ingredients and mix them well in a grinder or blender (use low).
  • Wet your hair with warm water and use the mixture to shampoo it thoroughly.
  • Rinse with warm water.

You can store the mixture in refrigerators by covering it properly. Throw or discard the mixture after 3 days.

Coconut milk shampoo


  • Liquid castile soap – 1/4 cup
  • Coconut milk – 1/4 cup
  • Peppermint essential oil – 20 drops
  • Olive oil – 1/2 tsp
  • Distilled water – 1/4 cup

How to make it?

  • Take a bowl, pour all the ingredients, and mix them well.
  • Your shampoo is ready, and you can store it in a reusable shampoo bottle.

Baking soda shampoo


  • Baking soda – 1 tbsp
  • Water – 1 cup

How to make it?

  • Take a bowl and pour water and baking soda into it.
  • Mix it well.

Your baking soda shampoo is ready.

Note: Do not use this shampoo regularly. You may use it as a clarifying shampoo to remove the buildup of dirt or other harmful substances. If you are switching from commercial shampoos to natural homemade shampoo, you may use this one to remove any chemical buildup from scalp or hair.

Note: Shake well before using any of the shampoos mentioned above as the ingredients may separate themselves after storing it.
