Tea for Cough

1. Ginger Tea

Ginger is another herb that has been a part of traditional Indian and Chinese medicines. It is a wonderful remedy for alleviating cough because of its anti-inflammatory properties. It helps in opening the airways of the throat and chest.

How to Make Ginger Tea For Cough:

Take 10 ounces of distilled water in a boiling pan and add 1-inch piece of fresh ginger to it. Let this boil for 10 minutes. Turn off the heat. Add 1 tablespoon of honey and mix well till the honey dissolves in the water. Sip this warm tea as it provides a soothing effect on the throat and also boosts your immune system.

2. Licorice Root Tea

Licorice root is a traditional Chinese herb and drinking this tea kills the viruses and bacteria that cause cough. The health benefits of licorice can be attributed to GL and GA triterpenes present in it. (2)

How to Make :

Take 8 ounces of distilled water and boil it. Turn off the heat and add 1-inch fresh licorice root to it. Let it steep for about 10 to 12 minutes. Add 1 tablespoon of raw honey to it and juice of half a wedge of lemon. Mix well and sip this mixture to get relief from cough.

For Gargle:

Without adding honey and lemon, just add a teaspoon of salt to the licorice root tea. Use this mixture as a gargle to soothe an irritated throat.

3. Chamomile Tea

How to Make :

Take 8 ounces of distilled water in a bowl. Add 1 teaspoon of dried chamomile to it. Boil this mixture for about 10 minutes. Turn off the heat. Cut a slice of lemon and put it in the bowl and wait for 2 minutes. Then remove the lemon and add 1 tablespoon of honey and mix well till the honey dissolves in the water.

4. Hibiscus Tea

Hibiscus tea has a flavor similar to cranberries. This tea is very effective in treating symptoms of cough and cold because of its high concentration of vitamin C. For every 8 ounces of serving, Hibiscus  offers more than 45 mg of vitamin C.

How to Make :

Take 8 ounces of distilled water in a boiling pan and add 1 tablespoon of dried Hibiscus flower to it. Let this mixture boil. Turn off the heat.  Add 1 tablespoon of honey and half a teaspoon of lemon juice to it. Mix well till the honey dissolves. Have this tea to soothe your throat.

5. Peppermint Tea

Peppermint is an important ingredient of many cough medications. Its aroma helps in opening up airways and fight respiratory infections. It reduces cough by decreasing inflammation.

How to Make Peppermint Tea for Cough:

Take 2 cups of distilled water and add 4 to 5 fresh peppermint leaves to it. Let this mixture boil for 8 to 10 minutes. Turn off the heat and add half a teaspoon of lemon juice to it. You can add honey if you require. Sip this tea by inhaling the aroma. This steam blended with the aroma helps in reducing cough and relieves chest congestion.

6. Honey Tea

Honey tea is a natural cough suppressant which minimizes throat pain that is caused by cough. Studies say that Honey reduces the production of mucus which is the main cause of cough. It also helps in shortening the duration of severe cough.

How to Make Honey Tea For Cough:

Add 8 ounces of distilled water in a kettle and boil it. After the water begins to boil, turn off the heat. Add 1 tablespoon of raw honey to it. Mix well till the honey dissolves in the water. Sip this tea and get relieved from cough and throat pain.
