DIY toothpaste

Toothpaste is the most basic and essential hygienic product. Egyptians around 5000 B.C. are generally known to be the first ones to use toothpaste. Although they may not be similar to what we use today, the primary purpose was, all the same, to clean the teeth. The modern day’s toothpaste works in multiple ways to clean the teeth. They are as listed below:

  • Abrasiveness – To scrub and clean the strains or plaque on teeth.
  • Foam – To remove or dislodge debris, bacteria, and plaque from teeth.
  • Additives – To maintain the freshness and prevent germ buildup in the mouth.

There are a lot of commercial toothpaste products that serve a variety of purposes to clean and maintain healthy teeth. However, chemicals used in them may not be suitable for everyone, which may harm the teeth. In such cases, natural DIY toothpaste can be useful. Here, we can choose or even restrain from using certain compounds or ingredients which may not be suitable for our teeth.

To give you a better understanding of DIY natural toothpaste, below are some of the key ingredients. You can make homemade natural toothpaste using any of these ingredients.

Ingredients for DIY toothpaste:

1. Baking soda

Most of the toothpaste brands use baking soda as one of the primary ingredients. The gritty and abrasiveness of it helps in removing stains or plaque buildup on & in-between teeth and whiten them. The alkaline nature of baking soda can neutralize the pH level, which can, in turn, reduce the risk of germs and cavities.
