Tapping for Weight Loss

Weight gain is one of the most common problems today. According to a report by the World Health Organization, over 1.9 billion adults were overweight in 2016. The stress-filled, on-the-go lifestyle of most people today are the primary reasons for obesity. And, as they say, it’s not as easy to lose weight as it is to gain it. There are a variety of options, from dietary supplements to various exercises that can help reduce weight, and the newest addition to the weight loss is tapping.

What is the tapping technique and how it works?

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), or simply tapping(1), involves touching various points on your body, like practiced in acupressure, to reduce anxiety. EFT Tapping for weight loss focuses on reducing the reason for weight loss and doesn’t provide a band-aid approach that might not be a long-term solution.

When the stress levels in your brain increase, the amygdala (mid part of the brain) releases hormones called adrenaline and cortisol, which are also known as stress hormones. This hormone is the reason you find yourself finishing off a packet of chips in an instant when you are stressed, causing weight gain. Many studies have shown that tapping can aid in weight loss by reducing stress.

EFT has been proven as an effective weight loss(2) technique. Here are some of the ways it can help you.

Use tapping to reduce cravings

If you can’t resist a particular type of unhealthy food, tapping can help you. Every time you have a craving, tapping for 1-2 minutes can reduce the craving. And individuals who used tapping for weight loss maintain that weight for 12 months under healthy circumstances, according to research.

Use tapping for emotional overeating

Most of us tend to overeat when we are stressed or on an emotional binder, leading to weight gain. EFT aids in bringing emotional peace, thus reducing overeating.

Use tapping for anxiety

Tapping can restore balance to your nervous energy, which is the root cause of all negative emotions. It helps neutralize your anxiety, thus preventing you from making unhealthy dietary choices.

How exactly does tapping work?

The first step in practicing this technique is to figure out what is causing the habit of unhealthy eating. Check whether it is stress, emotional trauma, or something else. Next, decide on a setup phrase that you will use when tapping. It should acknowledge the issue. Once that’s done, these nine meridians in your body should be the focus:

  • The karate chop (small intestine meridian).
  • The top of the head (governing vessel).
  • The eyebrow (bladder meridian).
  • The side of the eye (gallbladder meridian).
  • Under the eye (stomach meridian).
  • Under the nose (governing vessel).
  • The chin (central vessel).
  • The beginning of the collarbone (kidney meridian).
  • Under the arm (spleen meridian).

Start by tapping the karate chop point and reciting your setup phrase simultaneously. Then tap the following in ascending order on your body:

Eyebrow, side of the eye, under the eye, under the nose, chin, collarbone, under the arm. End this by tapping at the top of your head. Recite your setup phase at each tapping point.

The tapping technique is easy, and once you get used to it, you are closer to your weight loss goals.

Did you know?

Obesity has been linked to diabetes, heart diseases, and many other diseases, so losing weight can promote a long and healthy life.

Tapping for weight loss is effective, but nothing can beat following a healthy lifestyle. No weight loss solution is permanent, and once more and more fat starts accumulating, it can be difficult to get rid of it.

The best way to that is to keep a journal of your daily activities and eating habits, noting down every snack or chip you had during the day for a week. Then, after a week, evaluate the journal and find out what changes you can make for a healthier lifestyle.

Key fat burning enzymes start shutting down after sitting for long periods, which causes weight gain.
