As we know very well, proteins are an essential part of the body that helps build and repair the cells and tissues of the body. But taking it from wrong sources or overdoing it can harm the body and hormones in various ways. Nowadays, it is in the trend to have muscular bodies, and people are ready to do anything to attain it.

Be it slim or fat, everyone wants to have that good looking abs and cuts, and protein powders are the new companion for these types of people. But beware before going for any of them! The two major artificial sources of protein are Soy protein and Whey protein.

Unfortunately, sad, but it is true that phytoestrogens present in soy protein causes increased estrogen hormone and decreased testosterone hormone, and along with this thyroid hormone imbalance is also created. Also, a high intake of these proteins can lead to a reduction of calcium in bones, causing osteoporosis and even harm kidneys severely.

Is Your Protein Messing With Your Hormones

While gym hitters most commonly use whey protein. People hitting the gym regularly are very much familiar with this protein source and considered healthy. But this isn’t true! Whey protein is very much unhealthy and disturbs the body’s metabolism as well as hormone system a lot (1)

Consumption of it causes more harm than the benefit of your body. We know it is hard to believe but sadly true.

Whey protein not only disturbs the balance of the hormone in your body but also causes certain other risks for your body like cardiovascular diseases, disturbs gut bacteria leading to digestion-related issues, damage to kidneys, and weakness and lethargy. All these negative effects can be seen in the long-run consumption of it. 

Now the question arises if not Whey and Soy than what? The answer is natural sources! Natural sources here mean the consumption of naturally occurring foods that contain protein. This form of protein is the healthiest and side effects free.

They accomplish the body’s demand for protein without causing any hormonal disturbance. These sources can be both vegetarian and nonvegetarian. 

Source of Natural Protein

After the truth is said, we must all start to wonder that from where we can get this natural protein that fulfills our needs and helps in the growth of our body. Some of the high protein foods are fish, lean chicken, beans, broccoli tofu, milk, yogurt, nuts, seeds, cheese, quinoa, oats, oatmeal, chia seeds, lentils like chickpeas, kidney beans, and eggs. 

As per Ayurveda, the diet should be Satvic that has a soothing and healing effect on the body instead of the Tamsic diet that has destructive and negative effects on the body. Foods that are of non-vegetarian origin, high in spices and genetically engineered are considered to be Tamsic that produces negativity and anger in the body.

While the Satvic diet consists of vegetarian, simple, and natural food, it gives body positive and constructive energy and good emotions. So indeed, the animal source of protein is also important to complete the demand of the body; certain herbs are high in protein.

They can give you minimal protein like Ginger, Turmeric, Paprika, Basil, Mustard seeds, Celery seeds, Dried chervil, Fenugreek seeds, Fennel seeds, Cayenne powder, Garlic, and many more. So you can use them in various ways, either by taking them singly or by adding them to your dishes.

These spices not only add flavor to your dishes but also provide some amount of protein as well.

Even if you are vegan by choice or by social norms, you can still get your protein demands fulfilled. So eat healthily and stay healthy!!
