Since the outbreak of COVID-19, people have come up with random remedies which they claimed to cure the infection. Of many such claims, vitamin C has been one of the famed solutions that people believe could enrich our body’s natural ability to fight infections.

But can vitamin C cure novel coronavirus? The answer is it may help! Vitamin C is not a cure, but it may improve the specific functions of the body that may help in fighting the symptoms of COVID-19.

There is no study or paper which proved that vitamin C could cure or treat novel coronavirus. But, some health experts may suggest it as it may help in improving the immune system and boosting the body’s natural ability to fight any infections.

Why Is Vitamin C so Hyped?

Not just for COVID-19, but for various other diseases, natural remedies, or using natural strategies to boost health is considered a healthy option without any significant side-effects.

Taking COVID-19 itself as an example, people have come up with various remedies such as turmeric or ginger could treat the infection. Although there is no scientific evidence that says that these can cure COVID-19, there have been numerous studies which stated that certain compounds in these foods can support the body in fighting them. Or even in alleviating specific symptoms associated with it(1).

The reason people believe in vitamin C is that there have been specific papers published showing that it can alleviate or treat cold and flu. It can be essential to consider vitamin C because having those symptoms or infections during this pandemic can make us more vulnerable to get attacked or face the adverse complications of COVID-19.

Similar to cold & flu, there have been some papers that state that vitamin C can regulate the immune system. And a healthy immune system is known to help in fighting the infections better. It should be noted that we may not be able to boost the immune system just by consuming vitamin C. However, it may at least play a role in the healthy regulation of our immune system.

Foods That Are in Vitamin C:

Broccoli, tomatoes, strawberries, cauliflower, kale, kiwi, orange, and sweet potatoes are some of the excellent sources for vitamin C. These contain not only vitamin C but also other components that help in improving overall health.

Bottom Line:

Yes, most of these remedies can help in improving health conditions. But, consuming for one day or consuming them in concentrated form in more than the recommended dosage in a short period does not improve the situation. It should be noted that all the superfoods or health enriching foods should be eaten in moderation with a healthy plan. When practiced for over a period of time, it can strengthen our body, which may help in fighting infections but cannot treat the condition.

Following a healthy diet regimen, avoiding junk food, avoiding smoking, limiting alcohol consumption, practicing hygiene, and regular exercises are some of the best things to regulate the body’s functions.

When the body is functioning correctly without any disorder, it can focus on fighting the infection more effectively. A healthy body also supports treatment more effectively.
