A sunburn is nasty and can damage skin for a very long time, in spite of selecting sunscreens that have a higher SPF, we end up getting a sunburn. Repeated sunburns can put you at a high risk of Skin cancer as well. It is advisable to always wear a sunscreen half an hour before stepping out in the Sun, but if you still get a sunburn, you can use baking soda for sunburn (1).
Baking Soda has multiple uses and works well for burnt skin. It helps in reducing the burns and redness caused by the peeling of skin after a sunburn.

Baking soda is alkaline and can soothe burnt skin. It reduces the itching, inflammation and also works as an antiseptic on the affected area; it cools it and helps to retain the moisture on the skin.
When you’ve got a sunburn, ensure to avoid exposure to the Sun. Avoid usage of multiple remedies too. As a first-aid, apply ice immediately and try baking soda to treat the sunburn.

Clean the affected skin with cold water. Take a bowl and add 2 tsp of baking soda. Add enough water to make it into a paste. Take a cotton ball and apply the paste to the burnt area and let it rest for 15 minutes. Wash your skin and allow it to dry. You can this regularly to heal your skin of the sunburn.
Take ¼ cup of Baking Soda and mix it with half cup water. Take the solution in a spray bottle. Use this spray on the solution regularly.
Take 4 tsp of baking soda, 1 tbsp of witch hazel, 2 tbsp water, 1 tsp Aloe Vera gel, 1 tsp peppermint oil (optional) and mix everything except peppermint oil and baking soda. Mix baking soda and peppermint oil and add it to the mixture. Transfer in an airtight container and leave it for a day. Readily use it every day as a cream for sunburnt skin.

You all know how cucumber is made up of water. This property of cucumber helps to calm down the skin, hydrates it and cools the affected skin(2).
Blend 2 cucumbers to a paste. Mix baking soda with cucumber paste. Apply this paste on burnt skin and leave for 20 minutes. Rinse with cold water. Use regularly for best results.
Take Baking soda and mix it with rosewater in equal proportion. Take a cotton ball and apply where the skin is burnt. Apply it regularly.
Add some baking soda to your bathtub. Stir well to mix. Soak yourself in it for twenty minutes. Repeat at least twice daily. You will notice the sunburn on your skin will start to heal. You can also use Baking Soda, Oatmeal, and Buttermilk for a Baking soda bath.
Mix all these in your bathtub with lukewarm water. Soak for half an hour and dry. Repeat every day.
There are a lot of home remedies to treat sunburn. For instant relief, you can try baking soda. However, undertake the precautions while using baking soda. It is advised that you wear loose-fitting and fully covered clothes when you are exposed to the Sun for a long time, and in case of a sunburn, do not step out in the Sun. Although not a life-threatening condition, it can make you pretty uncomfortable with the skin peeling off, burning and redness that makes your skin very sensitive.
